September Month of Prayer and Fasting
CHURCH AVENUE CHURCH OF GOD
SEPTEMBER MONTH OF PRAYER & FASTING
“A Fast That Pleases God: Prayer, Fasting, Restoration & Revival
SEPTEMBER DECLARATION
“This September, I will seek God with my whole heart.
I will fast with purpose, pray with faith, walk in obedience, love with compassion, serve with humility, and trust God for transformation.
Every yoke will be broken, every broken place will be surrendered to God, and I will become a vessel of restoration.
My family will be covered in prayer.
My church will be strengthened by prayer.
My community will be blessed through our witness.
And when this fast is over, I will not return to where I was—I will move forward into what God has called me to become.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
A 30-Day Devotional Journey Through Isaiah 58
Theme Scripture:
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen?” — Isaiah 58:6
Introduction
September is our church’s Month of Prayer and Fasting. During these 30 days, we will journey through Isaiah 58 and discover that biblical fasting is more than giving up food. True fasting draws us closer to God, changes our hearts, strengthens our faith, breaks unhealthy patterns, releases compassion, and positions us to become instruments of restoration.
As we fast, let us seek not merely God’s hand, but God’s heart. Let us pray for personal transformation, our families, our church, our community, and the purposes of God.
Suggested Daily Practice
Each day:
- Read the Scripture slowly.
- Reflect on the devotional thought.
- Spend intentional time in prayer.
- Pray through the listed prayer points.
- Ask God what He wants you to surrender or obey.
- Record what God is showing you.
DAY 1 — A CALL TO AWAKEN
Scripture: Isaiah 58:1
Devotional:
God begins Isaiah 58 with a call to awaken His people. Sometimes spiritual renewal begins when God exposes what we have stopped noticing. Prayer and fasting invite us to become spiritually alert again.
This month, ask God to awaken your heart. Do not enter this fast simply asking God to change your circumstances. Ask Him to change you.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for spiritual awakening.
- Ask God to reveal areas of spiritual complacency.
- Pray for renewed hunger for God’s presence.
- Ask God to awaken our church.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, awaken me and make me sensitive to Your voice.”
DAY 2 — SEEKING GOD WHOLEHEARTEDLY
Scripture: Isaiah 58:2
Devotional:
God desires people who genuinely seek Him. Religious activity can never replace a surrendered heart. During this fast, let us pursue God—not simply answers from God.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for a deeper relationship with God.
- Ask God to increase your desire for His Word.
- Pray for consistency in prayer.
- Ask God to remove spiritual distractions.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, give me a greater hunger for You.”
DAY 3 — EXAMINING OUR MOTIVES
Scripture: Isaiah 58:3–5
Devotional:
God challenged Israel because their fasting was disconnected from their behavior. They were fasting outwardly while their hearts remained unchanged.
Today, examine your motives. Why are you fasting? What are you asking God to accomplish in you?
Prayer Points:
- Pray for pure motives.
- Repent of attitudes that do not honor God.
- Ask God to reveal hidden selfishness.
- Surrender your personal agenda to God.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, purify my heart and my motives.”
DAY 4 — THE PURPOSE OF FASTING
Scripture: Isaiah 58:6
Devotional:
God asks, “Is not this the fast that I have chosen?” Biblical fasting should produce spiritual freedom. God wants to break chains, remove burdens, and bring transformation.
Your fast is not punishment. It is an opportunity to surrender.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for freedom from spiritual bondage.
- Pray for freedom from destructive habits.
- Pray for emotional and relational healing.
- Ask God to break anything hindering your walk with Him.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, break every chain that keeps me from walking fully with You.”
DAY 5 — BREAKING YOKES
Scripture: Isaiah 58:6
Devotional:
God desires His people to experience freedom. Some burdens have been carried for so long that we begin to believe they are permanent. But God specializes in breaking yokes.
Bring your burdens before Him today.
Prayer Points:
- Pray against discouragement.
- Pray for freedom from fear.
- Pray for victory over spiritual oppression.
- Pray for those who feel trapped by circumstances.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, destroy every yoke that is not from You.”
DAY 6 — COMPASSION FOR THE BROKEN
Scripture: Isaiah 58:7
Devotional:
True fasting changes how we see people. God calls us to notice those who are hungry, hurting, vulnerable, and in need.
Ask God to make our church a place where hurting people encounter the love of Christ.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for people experiencing poverty.
- Pray for the homeless and vulnerable.
- Pray for families experiencing crisis.
- Ask God to make our church compassionate.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, give me Your eyes to see people who are hurting.”
DAY 7 — GENEROSITY
Scripture: Isaiah 58:7

Ask yourself today: “What can I give?”
Prayer Points:
- Pray for a generous spirit.
- Ask God to reveal someone you can bless.
- Pray for the financial needs of families.
- Pray for the resources necessary for ministry.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, make me a generous vessel.”
DAY 8 — LETTING OUR LIGHT SHINE

- Pray for those who need physical healing.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, heal the places in me that need Your touch.”
DAY 10 — GOD GOES BEFORE US
Scripture: Isaiah 58:8

DAY 11 — WHEN GOD ANSWERS
Scripture: Isaiah 58:9

Prayer Points:
- Pray for answered prayer.
- Pray for spiritual discernment.
- Ask God to help you recognize His voice.
- Pray for obedience.
Prayer Focus:
“Lord, help me hear You and obey You.”
DAY 12 — REMOVE THE FINGER OF ACCUSATION

CLOSING PRAYER FOR THE 30-DAY FAST
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for bringing us through this season of prayer and fasting. Thank You for every prayer You heard, every burden You lifted, every heart You touched, and every lesson You taught us.
Lord, let this fast produce lasting transformation in us individually and collectively. Break every yoke that does not belong in our lives. Heal the broken places. Restore what has been lost. Guide us when we cannot see the way. Strengthen us when we are weak.
Make us compassionate toward the hurting, generous toward those in need, faithful in prayer, obedient to Your Word, and committed to Your purposes for our lives.
Make our church a repairer of the breach and a restorer of paths to dwell in.
Let our congregation become a greater light in our community. Bring salvation to the lost, restoration to families, healing to the wounded, hope to the discouraged, and freedom to those who are bound.
May the spiritual fire kindled during this fast continue to burn.
We surrender ourselves, our families, our church, our future, and our plans to You.
Have Your way in us. Have Your way in our families. Have Your way in our church.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
